First of all, thank you so much for all the helpful content you’ve created here!

I stumbled onto lucid dreaming quite accidentally a while ago. However, even though I knew it was a dream, I struggled to control it. I would find myself in unfamiliar places and with scary characters. A part of me expected it, so I suspect it’s all my own making. The negative dreams disturbed me a lot, so I read up on it and the next time one happened, I tried to calm a rather hostile character trying to shoot me and talked to them. It worked. But another time, I found a character that seemed not be speaking in any comprehensible language, and sought to misbehave with me while i only felt helpless trying to wake myself up while resisting them physically. I’m yet to figure out what that was about.

I also accidentally entered what i think may have been the void, as you mention in your blog. It happened right after I told a familiar character “this is not real” and they responded with “yes but you shouldn’t say that!”. I then felt my body fall sharply through a nothingness, felt my consciousness change in its quality -like i was losing consciousness at an alarming rate – and had the distinct fear that I might be dying if I do not wake up right now. I woke myself up by trying to move my finger in real life, and woke up sweaty and with my heart banging through my chest.

Stumbling onto lucid dreaming without knowing what it was and feeling helpless through the dreaming process took a toll on me, and I would pray for it to “please stop, i cannot take it” because I would be scared to fall asleep every night.

In retrospect, I regret it a little. A part of me feels that allowing myself to fall through the void may have been okay if i wasn’t so scared.

Is there a specific book that I could go directly to?

Yes, it’s always interesting to look into a mirror in a lucid dream. In one I saw tiny, slowly spinning planet Earths in my eyes 😉
